Students of the Year
The Students of the Year campaign is a philanthropic leadership development program through which highly motivated, high-school leaders embark on a journey of professional growth, ensuring that they stand out when preparing for college and beyond. During the program, students foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Student leaders fundraise for LLS in honor of children who are blood cancer survivors. The title Student(s) of the Year is awarded to the candidate or co-candidate team in each community that raises the most funds during the 7-week competition.
Congratulations to all 2020 Students of the Year candidates and team members. Find our 2021 candidate class, below!
Meet Our 2021 Honored Hero, Emma
Emma Geiselman was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in December 2009 at the age of three. Emma was experiencing bruising, fatigue and pain in her stomach and shoulder. At first, her parents thought it was from rough housing with her siblings but as it persisted, it prompted her mom to take her to the pediatrician. Thankfully the doctor reacted quickly, ordering lab tests and ultrasounds. Within the same day, Emma’s parents received a call to come to the ER where Emma and her family received the news. The next day, Emma was taken by life flight to Oakland Children’s Hospital to begin treatment. She endured over two years of chemotherapy and completed her treatment in January 2012.
Emma has been in remission for nine years. She enjoys spending time with her younger brother, Jackson, and sister, Heidi. She has a passion for gymnastics, decorating, and organizing her room. She’s obsessed with her Corgi puppy, Gidget, and excited to be a high school freshman at Lincoln High School.
