Students of the Year
The Students of the Year campaign is a philanthropic leadership development program through which highly motivated, high-school leaders embark on a journey of professional growth, ensuring that they stand out when preparing for college and beyond. During the program, students foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Student leaders fundraise for LLS in honor of children who are blood cancer survivors. The title Student(s) of the Year is awarded to the candidate or co-candidate team in each community that raises the most funds during the 7-week competition.
Our local campaign began in 2017 with 8 Candidate Teams raising $160,000. Since then over 83 teams have participated raising over $3 Million! We are so excited to continue our growth in 2022!
In 2021, the Houston campaign had 30 candidate teams comprised of 60 student candidates and more than 220 team members participate in the Students of the Year campaign. The class of 2021 raised over $800,000! Team Leukemia Warriors led by Jackson Todd and Mahir Khurana from John Cooper School took home the Student of the Year title, while Team Crushin' It led by Drew Beckelman and Juliana Jaasma from Ridge Point High School was First Runner-Up, and Team Miracle Making Mustangs led by Chloe Westerman, Janie Slocum, and Sofia Westerman from Memorial High School came in Second Runner Up.
